Special Events with Terrance Hayes for the University of Pittsburgh English Department and Writing Community

On Wednesday, September 14th, Terrance Hayes will conduct a Q&A session with University of Pittsburgh Undergraduates interested in poetry and writing.  The event will take place in 208B Cathedral of Learning from 1:00-2:15 p.m.  Please note, this event is for University of Pittsburgh students only.

On Monday, September 19th, Terrance Hayes will give a reading for members of the Pitt English Department.  He will read from and talk about his book in progress To Float in the Space Between: Notes to a Future Biographer, a mixed genre study of the life and poetry of Etheridge Knight comprised of interviews, photographs, graphics, crime reports, prose vignettes, and lyric and critical essays. Hayes says about the book, “The subtitle (Notes to a Future Biographer) suggests both the challenges I encountered researching Knight as well as my strategies for framing/organizing the book. To create something a bit more cohesive than gumbo I used the structure Nabokov uses in Pale Fire (commentary and notes to numbered lines in “The Idea of Ancestry”) and the associative/slippery narrator of Sebald.“  The talk will begin at 2:00p.m. in 501 Cathedral of Learning.  Please note, this event is for University of Pittsburgh faculty and students only.
